Did the viral sting op video lead to a 'flop' for Humayun? Empty ground in Birbhum raises questions

A political controversy has emerged in West Bengal’s Birbhum district after the public rally of Humayun Kabir witnessed near-empty attendance, leading to the leader returning without addressing the gathering. The event, organised at the Margram High Madrasa ground under the banner of his party, the “Aam Janata Vikas Party,” was expected to draw a large crowd but failed to attract significant participation.

As per reports, only a handful of people, including a few children, were present at the venue, creating an unusual scene for a high-profile campaign event. Kabir, who has been actively campaigning across the state and claims to field candidates in more than 150 Assembly seats, reportedly did not proceed with his scheduled speech due to the lack of audience.

Instead of addressing the rally, Kabir left the venue and later spoke to the media from Rampurhat. He alleged that the failure of the event was not due to lack of public interest but because of what he described as “terror politics” and intimidation by the ruling Trinamool Congress. He claimed that supporters travelling to the venue were stopped en route and accused authorities of restricting political activities.

Kabir further alleged that he has been facing administrative hurdles, including denial of permission for helipads and restrictions on campaign logistics. He maintained that opposition voices are being suppressed in Birbhum and expressed confidence that political change would follow after the elections, claiming the current government would be voted out.

However, political observers have pointed out that the visuals of an empty rally ground have raised questions over Kabir’s organisational strength and electoral reach. Analysts suggest that reliance on high-visibility campaigning without strong ground-level support may be affecting his political credibility.
