On the occasion of Poila Boishakh, Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee extended greetings to the people of West Bengal, highlighting the state’s cultural richness while presenting differing tones in their messages.
Prime Minister Modi, in his message, conveyed wishes for happiness, prosperity, and good health, while praising Bengal’s “unique richness” and contributions to culture and literature. He emphasised unity, renewal, and pride in the state’s heritage, reiterating hopes for development and a brighter future for the region. On the other hand, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, through a video message, focused on preserving Bengal’s cultural identity and social harmony. She described the state as a historic hub of art, culture, and communal unity, while cautioning against forces she claimed are attempting to disrupt this balance.
Banerjee also raised concerns about democratic rights, urging citizens to remain united and respond through democratic means. Her appeal called on people to reject divisions and uphold peace and traditions, adding a political undertone to the festive occasion as both leaders addressed the public ahead of elections.
