The Bharatiya Janata Party has launched its “Matri Shakti Bharosa” initiative in West Bengal, with Union Minister Smriti Irani announcing that all women in the state will receive ₹3,000 per month if the party comes to power. The announcement was made during a press conference where senior BJP leaders were also present.
Smriti Irani clarified that there is no category-based restriction under the proposed scheme and said, “There is no discrimination. All women in Bengal will receive ₹3,000. This is the BJP’s commitment.” She further reiterated that the party plans to extend monthly financial assistance to all women across the state under this initiative.
The clarification comes after earlier manifesto references suggested that only “lower and lower-middle-class women” would be eligible for the benefit, creating confusion over the scope of the scheme. The new statement has now expanded the eligibility to all women, aligning it with broader welfare promises.
During the event, the BJP formally launched the “Matri Shakti Bharosa” card and symbolically distributed it to a few women. Party workers have already begun ground-level outreach in certain areas, collecting details from potential beneficiaries as part of the campaign initiative, while political observers say the final implementation will depend on electoral outcomes.
