West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made a serious allegation against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that the party is planning to “plant bombs” during the upcoming state assembly elections. Addressing a poll rally in Cooch Behar, she also alleged that such incidents would later be followed by investigations conducted by central agencies, including the National Investigation Agency.
In her remarks, Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of attempting to create unrest during the electoral process. She claimed that the party is preparing to stage disruptive activities during polling and then use central investigative agencies to influence the narrative. The statement comes at a time when political campaigning in West Bengal has intensified ahead of the multi-phase elections.
At a separate rally in Alipurduar, the Chief Minister further alleged that individuals from BJP-ruled states such as Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Assam are staying in hotels with large amounts of money, which she claimed is being used to influence voters in West Bengal. She suggested that these movements are part of a broader attempt to affect the electoral outcome in the state.
Polling in West Bengal will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, covering all 294 assembly constituencies. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, as the state prepares for a closely contested electoral battle between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP.
