No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
Kolkata Metro services on the Yellow Line were disrupted once again during peak office hours on Friday morning, causing significant inconvenience to daily commuters. The interruption occurred on the Airport–Noapara corridor, where services were halted following a reported failure in the automatic signalling system, leaving passengers stranded during rush hour.
According to metro sources, the technical issue developed around 10:14 AM to 10:19 AM, leading to an immediate suspension of train movement on the affected section. While the Blue Line continued to operate normally, services on the Yellow Line were severely impacted, particularly between the Airport (Jai Hind) station and Noapara.
Metro officials and engineers were deployed to the site soon after the fault was detected. However, despite efforts to restore normal operations, the signalling problem could not be fully resolved for an extended period. Authorities later introduced manual train operations, but services continued to run at reduced speed with extended intervals between trains.
The disruption led to heavy congestion at stations, especially at the Airport Metro terminal, where a large number of office-goers were seen waiting for services. The Yellow Line, inaugurated last year, has become an important link for airport connectivity, but repeated technical issues have raised concerns among daily commuters over reliability during peak hours.
