Complaint filed against Tapas Roy for entering housing complex without permission during campaign in Kolkata

A formal complaint has been lodged against BJP candidate Tapas Roy at Phoolbagan Police Station after residents of a housing complex in Ward 31 of Kolkata accused him of entering their premises without permission and carrying out election-related campaigning. The allegations have triggered political tension in the Maniktala constituency ahead of elections.

Residents and housing authorities of Rare Earth Complex and another residential complex in Ward 31 have claimed that Tapas Roy, along with associates, entered the gated premises despite objections from security personnel. According to the complaint, no prior permission was sought from the residents’ welfare committee, and entry protocols were allegedly bypassed, raising concerns over safety and privacy inside the residential area.

The written complaint states that campaigning activities were conducted inside the complex without consent, and security instructions were ignored. Residents further alleged that when opposition was raised, there were repeated phone calls made to a committee member, which they described as inappropriate and intimidating. A separate allegation from Prasad Exotika Complex also claims that armed personnel accompanied the candidate during entry and that a prior General Diary had already been filed, though residents say no action followed.

Housing authorities have strongly objected to what they describe as repeated violations of residential rules and civic norms. They stated that forced entry into private housing complexes for campaigning is unacceptable and compromises the security and peaceful environment of residents. Police have received both complaints and are expected to examine the allegations and statements submitted by residents as part of their inquiry.
