A major security scare has emerged ahead of the first phase of polling on April 23, after a bag full of live bombs was recovered in Cooch Behar, triggering panic among residents. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which comes just two days before voting in the district.
The recovery took place in the Phansighat area near Cooch Behar town, where police from Kotwali police station conducted a late-night raid on Sunday following a tip-off. During the operation, officers recovered two bags containing a total of 17 live bombs. The discovery of such a large quantity of explosives has raised serious concerns about safety and security in the region ahead of the elections.
After the recovery, the bomb squad was called to the spot and the explosives were safely disposed of. Police are now trying to identify those responsible for storing the bombs and the purpose behind it. With Cooch Behar set to vote in the first phase of the Assembly elections, the incident has heightened tension in the area, and the focus is now on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
