Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
Three relatives of Trinamool Congress MP and former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan have been arrested in Mumbai in connection with an alleged assault case. The accused include his father-in-law, brother-in-law, and another relative, who were taken into custody from the Byculla area following a violent altercation involving a local resident and his family.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday night around 9 pm when a man named Yusuf Khan was returning home with his family in a car. While passing through a waterlogged stretch, the vehicle hit a pothole, causing water to splash onto Shoaib Khan, a relative of Pathan. Although Shoaib Khan allegedly stopped the vehicle and apologised, an argument broke out between the two parties, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
According to allegations, the accused individuals, including Pathan’s relatives, attacked the man with bamboo sticks, leading to serious harassment and assault. The situation turned violent enough to require police intervention, after which the three accused were arrested. Another relative, also named in the case, is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to locate him.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining the sequence of events that led to the clash. The arrests have drawn attention due to the political and public profile of the individuals involved, while authorities continue to probe the matter further.
