BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed a public rally in the Jorasanko Assembly constituency of Kolkata as part of the BJP’s campaign for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026. Campaigning for the BJP candidate, he referred to the cultural and historical significance of the region, stating that the area is closely associated with Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and holds immense national importance.
During his speech, Yogi Adityanath claimed that the birthplace of India’s National Anthem and National Song should reflect symbols of national pride. He alleged that at a heritage site linked to Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral home, an image of Mamata Banerjee had been installed where, according to him, representations of “Bharat Mata” or Tagore should have been placed. He described the alleged act as an insult to Bengal’s cultural identity and to the spirit of Indianness.
He further stated that the development and respect of historical and cultural heritage should remain above political considerations. The remarks were made in the context of sharp political campaigning ahead of the elections, with the rally focusing on cultural pride and governance issues. The statements triggered strong political reactions in the state amid ongoing election tensions.
