Polling is underway across Tamil Nadu for the 2026 assembly elections, with the state recording a voter turnout of 17.69% by 9 am. Early morning queues were seen at multiple polling booths, indicating a steady start to the voting process amid tight security arrangements.
Several prominent leaders and public figures cast their votes early in the day. Chief Minister MK Stalin voted in Chennai along with Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin, while AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami voted in Salem. Actor-politicians and celebrities including Vijay, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith Kumar, and Dhanush were also seen participating in the voting process.
Amid the ongoing polling, TVK chief Vijay urged the Election Commission to extend voting hours, citing public participation concerns. Authorities have also deployed special transport services to facilitate voter movement, with lakhs already availing the service. Voting continues across the state with close monitoring.
