Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A political clash erupted between Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP supporters in North Howrah’s Liluah B Road area on Sunday during a roadshow featuring actor-politician Ravi Kishan. The event was held in support of BJP candidate Umesh Roy when the situation escalated near a TMC party office. According to local sources, TMC supporters began chanting "Joy Bangla," which was met with "Jai Shree Ram" slogans from BJP workers, triggering a heated confrontation between the two factions.
The verbal sparring quickly intensified into pushing and shoving, creating significant chaos in the area. Sensing the deteriorating situation, central security forces deployed on-site intervened immediately. To disperse the agitated crowd and restore order, the forces resorted to a mild lathi-charge. While the incident caused panic among locals, the situation was brought under control relatively quickly, and authorities reported no major injuries, though some individuals sustained minor bruises.
Following the clash, the area remained tense, prompting police and central forces to heighten security and conduct joint patrols across sensitive zones. The administration has issued a stern warning, stating that no form of political unrest will be tolerated during the election period. Officials have appealed to the public to maintain peace as security arrangements are bolstered at key intersections and sensitive locations to prevent further untoward incidents.
