TMC approaches EC against Suvendu for campaigning in police quarters without permission

Trinamool Congress (TMC) has leveled serious allegations against BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari. TMC spokesperson Jayaprakash Majumdar has officially complained that Adhikari entered the ‘Bodyguard Lines’—a residential complex for police personnel—to campaign for the upcoming second phase of voting without obtaining prior permission from the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The controversy intensified with claims that local police personnel present at the compound actively participated in the political activity by raising slogans in support of the BJP candidate. According to the Model Code of Conduct, it is strictly illegal for working government employees, including police personnel, to participate in political campaigns or display bias toward any candidate. The TMC leadership has demanded that the ECI launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the security and procedural breach, questioning whether Adhikari had the requisite authorization to enter the restricted zone with outsiders.

This incident follows a series of heated exchanges in Bhawanipur over the last two days. Tensions were already high after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee allegedly cut short her own campaign near the Swami Narayan Temple in Chakraberia on Saturday, claiming that BJP supporters were intentionally disrupting her meeting with loud microphone interference. As the accusations fly between the two camps, the TMC is pressing for administrative accountability, asserting that the impartiality of the police force is essential for protecting the democratic process during the state elections.
