Security stepped up in Bidhannagar as authorities scrutinise guest house records ahead of voting

Ahead of the second phase of voting in West Bengal scheduled for April 29, authorities have intensified surveillance measures in Salt Lake, with a focus on guest houses in the Bidhannagar area. Police and administrative officials have launched extensive inspection drives, signalling a strict approach to maintaining law and order in the run-up to polling.

As part of the exercise, guest house registers are being thoroughly examined to verify the identity of occupants, their place of origin, and the purpose of their stay. The move comes after two individuals from another state were recently detained from a guest house in Bidhannagar, prompting authorities to further tighten monitoring and expand checks across the locality.

In addition to inspections, several guest houses have issued notices announcing temporary closure from April 27 to April 29. Officials stated that these precautionary measures are aimed at preventing any untoward incidents and ensuring that the electoral process is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.
