Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Commuters in Kolkata can travel without disruption on the day of the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, as Kolkata Metro has confirmed that services will run according to the regular schedule on April 29. The announcement comes amid widespread concern that polling across the city and adjoining districts might lead to changes or restrictions in metro operations.
Authorities have clarified that all three operational corridors—the Blue, Green, and Orange lines—will function normally without any reduction in frequency or alteration in timings. This ensures that office-goers, students, polling personnel, and other essential commuters can rely on the metro system, which remains one of the most important transport networks in the city.
On the Blue Line, running between Noapara and Kavi Subhash (Shahid Khudiram), the first train will depart at 6:50 AM from Noapara and 6:54 AM from Kavi Subhash, while the last trains will leave at 9:45 PM and 9:44 PM respectively. For the Green Line, connecting Howrah Maidan and Sector V, services will begin at 6:45 AM from Howrah Maidan and 6:39 AM from Sector V, with the last trains operating at 9:55 PM from both ends.
On the Orange Line, which runs between Jai Hind Airport and Noapara, the first services will start at 7:40 AM from Jai Hind Airport and 7:18 AM from Noapara. The last trains will depart at 9:00 PM from Noapara and 9:20 PM from Jai Hind Airport. These timings mirror regular operations, reinforcing the decision to maintain uninterrupted services on polling day.
Metro authorities have also stated that special emphasis will be placed on passenger safety and crowd management throughout the day. With increased movement expected due to voting, additional vigilance and coordination will be ensured at stations and onboard trains, providing reassurance to daily commuters during a crucial electoral exercise.
