Firearm recovered near Jagatdal polling booth, BJP alleges attempt to intimidate voters

Tension gripped the Jagatdal Assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas on polling morning after an illegal firearm was recovered near a polling booth. The discovery of the weapon near Booth No. 34 in Panpur area led to immediate security response, with central forces and local police rushing to the spot to control the situation and prevent any escalation.

According to information, a pipe gun was found near the Keutia Gram Panchayat area under Panpur, close to the polling station. Police from Shyampur police station seized the firearm promptly. The presence of security forces ensured that voting activity in the area continued without major disruption, while the area was secured and sanitised for voter movement.

An investigation has been initiated to determine who placed the firearm near the booth and the purpose behind it. Authorities are examining all possible angles, including whether it was intended to create fear among voters or disrupt the peaceful conduct of polling. Security arrangements in and around the booth have been further tightened following the incident.

Following the recovery, BJP candidate from Jagatdal, Rajesh Kumar, reacted strongly, alleging that the weapon was planted to intimidate voters. He claimed that such tactics were used in earlier elections as well and demanded strict action against those responsible, while also praising the swift response of central forces in maintaining order.
