Tension gripped Basanti in South 24 Parganas during polling after BJP candidate Bikash Sardar was allegedly attacked near Booth No. 76 while inspecting the area. According to reports, his vehicle was vandalised during the incident, creating panic among voters and triggering immediate deployment of security forces in the locality.
It is further alleged that there were attempts to snatch the firearm of his security personnel during the attack. Questions have been raised over the role of central forces, with claims that despite their presence at the spot, they did not immediately intervene in the situation.
