Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee cast her vote at Mitra Institution in Kolkata’s Bhabanipur and launched a sharp attack on central forces, alleging widespread atrocities during the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections. Speaking after voting, she claimed that the CRPF had beaten women and children, carried out lathi-charges near booths, and even facilitated booth capturing in several areas, while asserting that the Trinamool Congress is heading towards a decisive two-thirds majority.
Banerjee said she had never witnessed such an election environment in her political career, stating, “I have never seen such an election or democracy in my life. I have been contesting elections since 1984, but I have never witnessed such atrocities before.” She further alleged that central forces had been acting against voters and party workers, claiming that several arrests were made overnight without justification and that forces had taken control of multiple locations.
She also questioned the role of central forces, stating that their duty is to guard borders but alleged that they were instead working in favour of a particular political party. She cited incidents from Bhabanipur as well as areas like Arambagh, Khanakul, and Goghat, where she claimed violence and intimidation had taken place during polling.
After casting her vote and making these remarks, Banerjee visited the Kalighat Kali Temple to offer prayers. Despite the allegations and tensions surrounding the polling process, she reiterated her confidence that the Trinamool Congress would secure a comfortable victory in the elections.
