Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Massive post-poll violence has erupted in the Sandeshkhali region of West Bengal, leaving five security personnel with gunshot wounds. The incident occurred late Tuesday night in the Baman Gheri area under Nazat Police Station jurisdiction. A joint team of local police and central forces was conducting a routine patrol when miscreants opened fire, directly targeting the security contingent in a brazen act of aggression.
The casualties include high-ranking local officials and central jawans. Among the injured are Bharat Purkait, the Officer-in-Charge of Nazat Police Station, Bhaswat Goswami from the Rajbari Outpost, and a woman police officer. Additionally, two CRPF jawans sustained bullet injuries during the ambush. All five personnel were initially rushed to Minakha Rural Hospital before being shifted to specialized government facilities in Kolkata for advanced medical care.
In response to the escalation, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has issued stern directives to state and district authorities. He has ordered the Chief Secretary, DGP, and Kolkata Police Commissioner to ensure continuous patrolling across sensitive zones. Security has been significantly tightened throughout the Sandeshkhali Assembly constituency to prevent further retaliatory strikes and restore order in the volatile post-election atmosphere.
