PM will offer Anjali to Maa Durga this Ashtami in Kolkata, receives multiple invitations
Bidhannagar's Techno City police have arrested Trinamool Congress leader Kamal Mondal and four others in connection with the brutal murder of a BJP worker. Mondal was apprehended in the early hours of the morning from the Kalyanpur border area in Bangaon, Gopalnagar. According to police sources, the TMC leader was intercepted while attempting to cross the border into Bangladesh to evade arrest after the incident.
The victim, identified as Madhu Mandal, was a BJP booth president and the husband of a former Patharghata Gram Panchayat member. The fatal encounter occurred shortly after election results were announced on the 4th, when Kamal Mondal and his followers allegedly intercepted Madhu at the Baliguri Bhangar intersection. The victim was severely beaten with blunt objects and later declared dead at a private hospital. While land disputes are cited as a background factor, the victim's family maintains the attack was politically motivated due to his long-standing affiliation with the BJP.
The murder triggered massive outrage in the Baligari area, leading villagers to vandalize Kamal Mondal's residence. Police had to resort to a baton charge to disperse the agitated crowd and restore order. Local BJP MLA Piyush Kanodia visited the spot to demand swift justice, while senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh warned the Trinamool Congress to "change its nature." The five accused are currently in police custody as investigations into the conspiracy and the attempted escape continue.
