A young man identified as Tapas Naskar, who was reportedly associated with the Trinamool Congress, was allegedly hacked to death in Kolkata’s Entally area late Tuesday night. The incident took place in the Malipara locality, where residents found the victim lying in a blood-soaked condition on Chowdhury Lane and informed police through the emergency helpline. Kolkata Police reached the spot and shifted him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda stated that the murder had no political connection and described it as the result of rivalry between two gangs. He said one suspect had been detained in connection with the case and that names of several other individuals had emerged during the investigation. According to the Police Commissioner, the accused and the deceased were known to each other and had links to disputes connected with the construction business.
Police sources stated that Tapas Naskar was allegedly involved in promoter and real-estate activities in the locality due to his association with an influential Trinamool Congress leader. Allegations also surfaced regarding his involvement in several illegal activities. Investigators said multiple complaints had previously been registered against him at the local police station and that he had been kept under surveillance before the elections. According to police, he had left the area during the election period and returned to Entally after polling concluded.
Investigators stated that multiple injury marks were found on the victim’s body and allegations also emerged that gunshots may have been fired during the attack. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and nature of injuries. Following the incident, the victim’s wife lodged a written complaint at the local police station naming several individuals in connection with the murder.
Ajay Nanda reiterated that the killing was linked to gang rivalry and not political conflict. He stated that disputes related to the construction business had been under investigation and that the attack took place shortly after the victim returned to the locality after staying away for some time. The Police Commissioner said all individuals involved in the murder would be identified and arrested as the investigation progresses.
