The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) officially announced the results for the 2026 Madhyamik (Class 10) examinations on Friday, May 8, 2026. This year, the overall pass percentage recorded is 86.83%, marking a steady performance across the state. The results were declared within a tight 90-day window following the conclusion of the exams, which were held from February 2 to February 12. Approximately 9.71 lakh students appeared for the examination across 2,682 centers. In terms of regional performance, Kalimpong district secured the top spot with a pass percentage of 95.10%, closely followed by East Midnapore at 94.82%.
Abhirup Bhadra from Sarada Vidya Mandir, Raiganj (North Dinajpur), has secured the first rank in the state with an exceptional score of 698 out of 700 (99.71%). Priyatosh Mukherjee from Sarojini Devi Shishu Mandir, Birbhum, followed closely in the second position with 696 marks. The third position is shared by three students—Sour Jana (Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission), Ankan Kumar Jana (Ramakrishna Shiksha Mandir), and Mainak Mondal (Bankura Christian Collegiate)—all scoring 695 marks. The merit list this year is remarkably broad, with a total of 131 students from 19 different districts securing spots within the top ten ranks.
The gender-wise data indicates a high success rate among both groups, with 103 boys and 28 girls making it into the top ten merit list. While female candidates outnumber male candidates in total appearances (4.91 lakh females vs. 4.09 lakh males), the pass percentage for boys stood at 89.57% compared to 84.54% for girls. Additionally, Children With Special Needs (CWSN) displayed a commendable performance with a success rate of 74.43%. Students can now access their provisional marksheets online via the official portal using their roll numbers and dates of birth.
The Board highlighted that the 18th Legislative Assembly's formation and the recent administrative transitions in the state did not impact the timely release of the academic results. Schools are expected to start the distribution of original certificates and marksheets from their respective camp offices shortly. For those who did not meet the qualifying criteria, the Board will soon announce the schedule for compartmental examinations, ensuring that students have a fair opportunity to continue their higher secondary education without losing an academic year.
