The Bharatiya Janata Party has intensified preparations for government formation in West Bengal following its Assembly election victory, with the focus now shifting to the selection of the state’s next Chief Minister. The final decision on the leadership is expected to be taken during meetings scheduled later in the day. Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata shortly after 11 AM and was received at the airport by senior BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, Sukanta Majumdar and Nisith Pramanik.
After arriving in the city, Shah travelled directly to the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, where he offered prayers to Maa Bhavatarini. Following the temple visit, he returned to a hotel in New Town and is scheduled to hold a series of closed-door meetings with senior leaders of the BJP’s West Bengal unit. The discussions are expected to focus on government formation and the distribution of key responsibilities in the new administration.
Later in the afternoon, Shah is scheduled to attend a meeting with newly elected BJP legislators at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town. According to party sources, the name of the next Chief Minister is expected to be finalised during this meeting. Speculation has also increased over the possible appointment of one or more Deputy Chief Ministers, as several BJP-ruled states currently have Deputy CMs in their governments. Shah is expected to remain in Kolkata until the swearing-in ceremony at Brigade Parade Ground before departing from the city tomorrow.
