Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Friday launched a sharp attack on former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and commented on the future of the Minority Development Department while speaking to journalists at Central Park in Salt Lake, Kolkata. His remarks came amid ongoing discussions regarding the formation of the new government in West Bengal and the allocation of ministerial portfolios following the Assembly election results.
When asked about his preferred department in the upcoming government, Ghosh said that every department was important for the development of the state and added that the party leadership would take all decisions regarding responsibilities and portfolio allocation. He stated that BJP workers had contested the elections following party instructions and that the focus now was on fulfilling a larger mission for the state.
Responding to questions regarding the Minority Development Department, Ghosh said minorities had received significant development benefits over the years but continued to face poverty, lack of education and involvement in crime. He stated that the BJP’s objective remained “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.” When asked whether the department could be shut down, he said the final decision would be taken by the party leadership and added that greater focus would now be placed on tribal communities and backward classes.
Commenting on the law-and-order situation and alleged attacks on BJP workers, Ghosh said the culture of the previous government was still continuing and claimed that changes would become visible after the swearing-in ceremony of the new government. Referring to the notification dissolving the previous cabinet, he also targeted Mamata Banerjee, saying she had “lost the eligibility to sit in the Assembly” and alleging that she no longer had any administrative role following the dissolution of the previous government.
