Panic spread in parts of Jalpaiguri district after the decomposed body of a missing tea garden worker was recovered from the banks of the Teesta River on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Ratiya Oraon, a worker of the Bhandiguri Tea Garden in Jalpaiguri.
According to local sources, Ratiya Oraon had been missing since the election period. Family members and local residents reportedly searched for him in different areas but were unable to trace his whereabouts over the past several days.
The body was spotted by local residents who had gone near the Teesta riverbank to graze cattle. Police reached the spot after being informed, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Preliminary identification confirmed the deceased as Ratiya Oraon, and police have started an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
