Weather Alert! Kalbaisakhi likely in Kolkata, 5 other districts today and tomorrow

The Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for West Bengal, predicting scattered thunderstorms and rain across several districts today and tomorrow. A "Kalbaisakhi" or Nor'wester is specifically forecast for five southern districts, including Bankura, East and West Burdwan, North 24 Parganas, and Hooghly. These areas are expected to witness gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, providing temporary relief from the humid conditions.

Kolkata is also likely to experience scattered thunderstorms on Sunday with wind gusts between 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. While the sky remains partly cloudy, the high level of water vapor in the air is expected to keep the afternoon weather hot and uncomfortable for residents. However, this rainy spell in the south is predicted to be short-lived, as the frequency of storms will begin to decrease from Monday onwards.

By mid-week, a significant weather shift is anticipated. From Tuesday to Friday, temperatures in South Bengal are likely to rise by about 3 degrees Celsius as the chances of rain diminish. Conversely, North Bengal is bracing for a change in wind patterns starting Tuesday, which will likely trigger a period of heavy rainfall. The Met office suggests that the northern districts remain at risk of intense downpours through Thursday.
