No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari shared an emotional message on Sunday to mark Mother’s Day, a day after taking oath as the state’s Chief Minister. Through a social media post, he paid tribute to mothers and motherhood while also indirectly expressing gratitude toward his own mother. The message drew significant attention online and quickly generated large numbers of reactions, shares and comments.
In his Facebook post, the Chief Minister shared an image symbolising the bond between a mother and child. The caption on the image read, “The greatest treasure on earth and the deepest emotion in human life is ‘Mother’. On this World Mother’s Day, I offer my humble respect and heartfelt salutations to all mothers across the world.” Many users responded emotionally to the message, while some commenters also referred to the mother of Abhaya and linked the post to her continuing fight for justice.
The post came a day after Suvendu Adhikari, a resident of Kanthi’s Shantikunj, officially assumed office as the administrative head of West Bengal. According to reports, his mother Gayatri Devi had planned to welcome him home with his favourite meal after he became Chief Minister. Late on Saturday night, when Suvendu returned home amid celebrations and crowds of supporters, his mother reportedly remained awake to see her son following his political victory and swearing-in ceremony.
The emotional significance of the occasion was widely discussed in political and social circles, with many observers pointing to the role of Suvendu Adhikari’s mother throughout his political journey. The discussion around the post also included references to Ratna Debnath, the mother of the RG Kar case victim, who later entered politics and became a BJP MLA while seeking justice for her daughter. Several commenters urged the Chief Minister to help bring closure to her struggle as a mother.
