A security scare was triggered on Sunday after two gelatin sticks were recovered near the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The explosive materials were found during routine security checks near an ashram close to Kagalipura, around three kilometres from the main event venue where the Prime Minister was scheduled to attend a programme later in the day. Police have detained a suspect and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to police officials, the suspicious materials were discovered on the side of a footpath during advance security inspections conducted before the Prime Minister’s arrival. Security agencies immediately cordoned off the area after the recovery, while bomb disposal squads and forensic teams were deployed to examine the explosives and surrounding locations. Authorities are now investigating how the gelatin sticks reached the area and whether there was any larger conspiracy linked to the incident.
Police officials said intensive questioning of a suspect was underway. Investigators are also examining whether the recovered materials were connected to quarrying or construction activities in the region or whether they had been deliberately placed near the Prime Minister’s route and event venue. Multiple layers of security and surveillance had already been deployed in and around the venue because of the high-profile visit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Art of Living International Centre near Bengaluru to participate in programmes marking 45 years of the foundation and events associated with founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. During the programme, the Prime Minister praised the organisation’s work related to spirituality, service, and social welfare initiatives. He also inaugurated a new meditation hall at the campus.
Addressing the gathering, Modi spoke about environmental conservation, natural farming, sustainable living, and youth empowerment. He said Bengaluru had evolved beyond being only a technology hub and had also contributed to India’s cultural and spiritual consciousness. Security officials continued investigations throughout the day, while authorities maintained heightened security arrangements across the area.
