The Barasat ACJM Court on Monday sent three sharpshooters arrested from Uttar Pradesh to 13 days of CID custody in connection with the murder case of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The accused were produced before the court earlier in the day following their arrest during the investigation into the killing.
As per the court order, all three accused will remain in CID custody until May 24. Investigators are expected to conduct detailed interrogation during this period to gather information regarding the alleged murder conspiracy, the planning of the attack and the identity of the mastermind behind the crime.
According to investigative sources, the CID team may take the accused to the crime scene in Madhyamgram, where Chandranath Rath was shot dead, to recreate the sequence of events linked to the attack. Investigating officers are also examining who allegedly hired the contract killers and the source from which money for the murder was transferred.
