Panic spread across the Jagaddal Assembly constituency on Monday after a large quantity of fresh crude bombs was recovered from the Anandnagar area under Ward No. 35 of Bhatpara. Police recovered the explosives from inside a bag hidden in bushes near a residential locality, triggering concern among local residents and security agencies.
According to local sources, residents alerted police after noticing a suspicious bag lying in a deserted patch of bushes in Anandnagar. Following the information, personnel from Bhatpara police station along with central security forces reached the area and launched a search operation. During the search, officers recovered a bag containing a large number of freshly made crude “sutli” bombs.
Soon after the recovery, security personnel sealed off the entire area to prevent any untoward incident. The bomb disposal squad was informed and called to the spot to safely defuse the explosives. Police also intensified patrolling in and around the locality following the recovery of the bombs.
Investigators have started examining who hid the explosives in the area and the possible purpose behind storing them after the elections. Police are also scanning nearby CCTV footage and searching for suspects to determine whether the explosives were linked to a larger conspiracy. Residents of the locality were urged to remain alert and immediately inform police about any suspicious object or activity.
