Police raid TMC MLA Dilip Mondal’s Pailan residence after alleged threat against BJP workers

Police conducted raids on the Pailan residences of Trinamool Congress MLA Dilip Mondal on Thursday in connection with cases filed over his alleged threatening remarks against BJP leaders and workers. According to reports, personnel from the Diamond Harbour Police District, accompanied by central forces, simultaneously searched two properties linked to the Bishnupur MLA from South 24 Parganas. Officials stated that Mondal was not found during the operation despite reports that he had been seen in the locality earlier in the morning.

The raids were carried out after two FIRs were reportedly registered against the MLA under non-bailable sections. The controversy followed the circulation of a viral video in which Dilip Mondal was allegedly heard making threatening remarks while addressing Trinamool workers and supporters. According to the allegations, he stated that his party had “shown enough restraint” for 15 years and warned that the situation would no longer remain the same. He was also allegedly heard saying that he was “not afraid of the police.”

During the search operation, the luxurious nature of the MLA’s properties drew attention. According to reports, the houses included a large lawn, a swimming pool, swings, and decorative animal statues including deer and tigers inside the garden area. Police personnel continued to remain deployed around the residences following the raids. Officials from the Diamond Harbour Police District stated that “the law will take its own course” regarding the matter.

Following the emergence of the viral video, BJP Diamond Harbour organisational district general secretary Somnath Roy criticised the Trinamool MLA. Reacting to the remarks, Roy stated that Dilip Mondal should remember that “this is no longer the old Trinamool government.” The police operation took place amid continuing political tension in several areas following the West Bengal Assembly election results.
