Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
The Trinamool Congress stated that Jahangir Khan’s decision to withdraw from the Falta Assembly constituency repoll was his personal decision and not that of the party. In an official statement, the party alleged that more than 100 Trinamool workers had been arrested in the Falta Assembly constituency since the declaration of election results on May 4. The party also alleged that several party offices had been vandalised, shut down, and forcibly occupied despite repeated complaints to the Election Commission.
According to the party statement, Trinamool Congress workers in Falta continued resisting alleged political pressure and intimidation despite the prevailing situation in the constituency. The party claimed that pressure was being exerted through agencies and the administration, and stated that some individuals eventually stepped away from active political participation under those circumstances. The party strongly condemned the developments and stated that its political struggle against the BJP would continue both in West Bengal and at the national level.
The Election Commission had earlier ordered a complete repoll in the Falta Assembly constituency following allegations related to electoral irregularities and disturbances during polling. Political tension in the constituency intensified further after criminal cases were registered against Jahangir Khan and subsequent legal proceedings took place before the Calcutta High Court. The repoll is scheduled to be conducted across all polling booths in the constituency under heightened security arrangements.
