The Centre has provided ‘Y’ category armed security cover to Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, with the protection arrangement becoming effective from May 19. Officials said the Ministry of Home Affairs approved the security cover following a threat perception assessment conducted by the Intelligence Bureau.
Under the arrangement, the Central Industrial Security Force has been assigned responsibility for providing security to the Barasat Lok Sabha MP. The CISF is one of the central armed police forces responsible for securing key installations and providing protection to individuals facing security threats. Under ‘Y’ category security, armed personnel are deployed for round-the-clock protection based on assessed threat levels.
Officials said the decision was taken after a review of Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar’s security profile. Sources indicated that intelligence agencies had submitted an assessment report to the Ministry of Home Affairs before the security cover was sanctioned. The security arrangement will remain subject to periodic review under existing government protocol.
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar represents the Barasat constituency in West Bengal and has held multiple organisational and parliamentary responsibilities within the Trinamool Congress. The security cover was granted days after the Assembly elections in West Bengal, in which the BJP formed the government in the state for the first time with an absolute majority.
