Cyclonic circulation to bring heavy rainfall in North Bengal,South Bengal heat persists

A cyclonic circulation over north Bengal and adjoining areas is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across several northern districts of West Bengal over the next few days, according to the Meteorological Department. Weather officials said that while north Bengal is likely to experience sustained rainfall activity, residents of south Bengal are unlikely to receive major relief from prevailing heat and humidity despite scattered rain and thunderstorms.

The Meteorological Department stated that one cyclonic circulation is currently active over Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh, while another system has formed over western Bihar. The interaction of these weather systems is expected to strengthen rainfall activity over north Bengal from Thursday through Tuesday. Officials said rainfall intensity may increase further during the weekend in several districts.

According to the forecast, extremely heavy rainfall may occur on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts. Heavy rainfall is also likely till Tuesday in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. The districts of Malda, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds during this period.

In south Bengal, scattered thunderstorms and isolated rain are likely in some districts over the next few days. However, weather officials said these spells are expected to remain brief and insufficient to reduce daytime temperatures significantly. Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue across large parts of the region due to persistent moisture in the atmosphere.

The districts likely to experience the most uncomfortable weather conditions include Bankura, Purulia, Paschim Medinipur, Paschim Bardhaman and Birbhum. Humidity levels are also expected to remain high in Kolkata and adjoining coastal districts, leading to increased discomfort despite occasional rainfall activity.
