Baranagar TMC leader Shankar Raut has been arrested by police along with three others in connection with allegations of extortion and assault. The arrested individuals have been identified as Arpan Dutta and Boni, along with one more associate.
According to police sources, late on Thursday night Raut’s associates were allegedly involved in a scuffle in a locality of Baranagar. They were later taken in a vehicle reportedly bearing a police sticker and transported to Baranagar State General Hospital, where they faced protests from local residents. The group was subsequently surrounded and detained at the spot before being formally arrested on Friday morning.
Police said the case involves allegations of extortion and assault linked to the group’s activities in the area. Investigators are examining the sequence of events that led to the confrontation and subsequent detention at the hospital premises.
This is not the first controversy involving Shankar Raut, as earlier cases have been reported against him and his associates, including a February incident in which close aide Arpan Dutta was jailed in an assault case involving an interior designer in Baranagar.
