Speaking at a Rozgar Mela in Sealdah on Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the state’s image had suffered because of recruitment corruption and court interventions linked to hiring irregularities. Referring to the teacher recruitment and municipal recruitment cases, he said the cancellation of jobs of 26,000 teachers and non-teaching staff had damaged the state’s reputation.
The Chief Minister announced that the state government had started planning reforms in recruitment processes for government departments and state-supported institutions. He said a new recruitment law would be introduced during the next session of the West Bengal Assembly to strengthen transparency in appointments.
Addressing the gathering, Suvendu Adhikari said the state’s “double-engine government” would follow the Centre’s recruitment model in sectors such as railways and paramilitary forces. He also stated that candidates appearing for written examinations in the state should be provided carbon copies of their OMR sheets to ensure transparency in the evaluation process.
The programme in Sealdah was organised under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide Rozgar Mela initiative aimed at distributing 10 lakh government jobs across the country. Around 51,000 appointment letters were distributed at 47 locations nationwide as part of the programme held on Saturday.
