No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A 17-year-old boy went missing after being swept away by the strong current of the Ganga while bathing with friends at Belur Jagannath Ghat on Friday morning. The missing teenager has been identified as Nitin Gupta. According to local sources, five friends had come to the ghat to bathe in the river when the incident occurred. During the bath, Nitin Gupta was reportedly pulled away by the strong current. People present at the spot immediately attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful. After receiving information about the incident, personnel from Belur Police Station reached the location and launched a search operation for the missing boy.
The incident has created concern in the area as another similar case was reported just two days earlier, when a young man was also swept away by the strong current of the Ganga. Local residents stated that repeated incidents at the ghat have increased anxiety among people visiting the riverbank. Police officials continued search efforts in the river following the latest incident, while local residents and visitors gathered near the ghat after news of the drowning spread through the area.
