Abhishek Banerjee melows down! asks for 10 days' time to address KMC's demolition notices

Abhishek Banerjee has reportedly softened his tone regarding the legal scrutiny of his properties. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) recently served notices to Banerjee’s residences at Kalighat Road and Harish Mukherjee Road, questioning whether proper permissions were secured for additional constructions. This legal action includes an explicit order for the demolition of unauthorized portions of his residence, "Shantiniketan," in Kalighat.

The development follows a period of public defiance from the Diamond Harbour MP. Just days ago, when questioned by journalists about the municipal notices, Banerjee had responded with visible agitation and a threatening tone, challenging reporters to identify specific illegalities before seeking answers. However, with the KMC’s initial deadline set to expire this Monday, the leader has moved away from confrontation toward a procedural approach.

On Sunday morning, it was revealed that Banerjee, through his legal counsel, has formally written to the KMC requesting a 10-day extension to address the matter. Informed circles suggest that such requests for time are typically granted by the municipality, potentially providing a temporary reprieve for the TMC leader. Beyond the immediate demolition order for the Kalighat property, the KMC has also placed 17 other properties belonging to Banerjee under close surveillance as part of a broader valuation and compliance investigation.
