A formal complaint has been submitted to the Cyber Crime Police Station under the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate seeking the registration of an FIR against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The complainant, Manash Sen Chowdhury, a resident of Salt Lake, has cited Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, alleging that Shah made inflammatory, intimidatory, and communally provocative statements during the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election campaign.
The complaint highlights a rally where Amit Shah allegedly stated that under Mamata Banerjee’s rule, the ideals of "Maa, Maati, Manush" were replaced by "Mullah, Madrasa, and Mafia". The petitioner argues that these remarks derogatorily link a specific religious community to criminality, fostering communal enmity and violating the Model Code of Conduct.
Furthermore, the complaint details instances of alleged criminal intimidation where Shah reportedly warned political workers to stay inside their homes, threatening to "hang them upside down" after the election results on May 5th. The petitioner has requested that the police treat the information as an FIR under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Representation of the People Act, and the Information Technology Act.
