TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar resigns from all posts day after meeting CM Suvendu

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Wednesday resigned from all her organizational posts in the Trinamool Congress while sharply criticizing the party’s top leadership in her resignation letter. In a communication sent to Subrata Bakshi, she announced her resignation from the post of chairperson of the All India Trinamool Mahila Congress along with all committee responsibilities and organizational positions within the party.

In her resignation letter, Kakoli alleged that an “uncultured and abusive party MP” had behaved inappropriately toward women MPs, and claimed that the senior leadership neither extended support nor expressed sympathy over the matter. Without naming anyone directly, she stated that continuing in such organizational positions under those circumstances no longer held any meaning for her.

Kakoli also raised concerns over the party leadership’s handling of issues including the RG Kar Medical College incident and the ration corruption controversy. Following the Trinamool Congress’ poor performance in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, she had earlier been removed from the post of chief whip in the Lok Sabha. She had subsequently criticized the party leadership and I-PAC publicly and later resigned as the Barasat district president.

Political speculation intensified after Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar attended Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s administrative meeting in Kalyani on Tuesday. Her participation in the meeting drew attention because of the prevailing political tensions following the Assembly election results and ongoing discussions around possible realignments within the opposition camp.

Although Kakoli clarified that the Kalyani programme was an official administrative meeting and that she attended after receiving an invitation, her resignation from all organizational positions on Wednesday further fueled speculation regarding her political future. However, in her resignation letter, she indicated that she would continue working as an ordinary Trinamool Congress worker and was not formally leaving the party at this stage.
