The internal friction within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has reached a boiling point as Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar officially complained to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against her own party colleague, Kalyan Banerjee. In a sharply worded letter, Dastidar accused Banerjee of repeatedly using verbally abusive language and exhibiting misogynistic behavior toward her and other women parliamentarians inside the Lok Sabha. She has formally requested the Speaker’s permission to lodge a grievance, urging that such conduct be punished to maintain the decorum of the House.
Dastidar’s complaint highlights that these incidents are not isolated, alleging that several lady members have been subjected to similar treatment. This public escalation of internal conflict comes at a particularly sensitive time for the Trinamool Congress, which is already grappling with the aftermath of a significant electoral setback in the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections. The incident underscores a deepening divide among senior leadership as the party faces increasing public expressions of dissent.
The timing of the letter is also significant, given Dastidar’s recent move to distance herself from the party’s internal structure. Despite being a veteran four-term MP, she recently stepped down from all her organizational posts within the TMC, though she continues to serve her constituency in the Lok Sabha. Her decision to go public with allegations of verbal abuse suggests a breakdown in communication and discipline within the party's parliamentary wing.
