Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Claims of a major investment by Amul in West Bengal have gained attention after several BJP leaders stated that the dairy cooperative is considering a project worth approximately ₹650 crore in the state. According to these claims, Amul is planning to establish a dairy processing plant in West Bengal, a move that is expected to strengthen dairy infrastructure and generate employment opportunities. BJP MLA Gourishankar Ghosh stated on social media that the proposed project would contribute to development and self-reliance in the state. However, no official announcement regarding the proposed investment has yet been issued by the state government.
The reports emerged shortly after discussions on industrial development in West Bengal intensified following a meeting between State BJP President Shamik Bhattacharya and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. BJP leaders have claimed that the proposed Amul project would represent the company's first fully owned dairy plant in the state. The possibility of a substantial investment has sparked discussions within administrative and political circles, particularly in the context of efforts to attract new industries and investments to West Bengal.
According to information available from administrative and political sources, the state government is seeking cooperation from the Centre for the development of industrial parks at several locations across West Bengal. Potential sites identified for industrial development include Singur, Ashoknagar, Ranaghat, Purulia, and Jhargram. Economic expert Anirban Datta stated that discussions with various investor organisations have been taking place through established government channels and that the reported interest from Amul may be linked to those ongoing efforts. No formal statement confirming the investment proposal has been issued by the state government.
