The state government's free bus travel service for women was officially launched on Monday morning at the bus depot in Haldia, the industrial city of East Medinipur. The initiative, introduced in accordance with government directives, aims to provide free bus travel facilities to women across the state. Haldia MLA Pradip Bijli formally inaugurated the scheme by distributing zero-value tickets to women passengers and female students at the depot. Officials of the Transport Corporation were also present during the launch programme.
Women from different sections of society, including working professionals and students, participated in the inauguration event and received the zero-value tickets. The launch witnessed significant public interest, with women gathering at ticket counters and boarding buses under the newly introduced arrangement. The scheme commenced operations from the Haldia depot following the formal distribution of tickets by the MLA.
Several women passengers expressed satisfaction over the commencement of the free travel facility. A female passenger stated that the initiative would help reduce daily commuting expenses and provide financial relief. Women present at the depot welcomed the introduction of the scheme and collected the tickets issued under the new service.
