A vehicle belonging to Samiul Islam, a former member of the Malda Zilla Parishad and Vice-President of a Block Trinamool Congress committee, was seized on Sunday following alleged non-payment of loan installments for several years. According to information provided by the loan recovery agency, the vehicle had been purchased in 2016 through a loan exceeding ₹5 lakh. Representatives of the recovery agency, accompanied by police personnel, visited his residence in Azadpalli under the Chanchal area of Malda district and took possession of the vehicle after completing the required legal procedures.
According to the agency, only ₹1.18 lakh of the loan amount had been repaid, leaving an outstanding principal balance of approximately ₹3.91 lakh. It was alleged that multiple notices had been issued by the lending institution, but no response was received. Agency representatives stated that the loan installments had remained overdue since 2018 and that the total outstanding amount, including accrued interest, had reached approximately ₹6 lakh.
Debashis Chakraborty, an employee of the recovery agency, stated that the vehicle was seized in accordance with all legal requirements. Following the completion of procedural formalities, the vehicle was removed from the residence and taken into custody. The recovery action was carried out on Sunday at the leader’s residence in Azadpalli.
