BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
In a dramatic turn of events in Kolkata’s Narkeldanga area, Trinamool Congress (TMC) councilor Sachin Singh was arrested on Tuesday afternoon. Singh, who represents Ward 36 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, faces serious charges of extortion, fraud, and financial irregularities. The arrest followed a chaotic morning where an agitated local crowd surrounded his residence, chanting "Chor Chor" (Thief) slogans and demanding immediate accountability for his alleged long-standing corruption.
The situation turned violent as members of the public began throwing stones and bricks at the councilor's house, expressing years of pent-up frustration. Local residents alleged that Singh had been abusing his political power to extort money from businesses and individuals in the area for a long time. Furthermore, he has been accused of accepting bribes in exchange for facilitating various municipal projects and using muscle power to threaten and assault those who opposed him.
Recognizing the severity of the public anger and the gravity of the accusations, the police intervened and took the councilor into custody. Authorities have confirmed that the arrest is based on specific complaints of fraud and extortion within the Narkeldanga jurisdiction. This incident comes at a particularly sensitive time for the Trinamool Congress, as the party is already grappling with internal rifts and a declining legislative presence in the state.
