Smita Pandey says Firhad Hakim has not officially resigned

Kolkata Municipal Corporation Commissioner Smita Pandey has stated that Mayor Firhad Hakim has not officially resigned from his post, while Hakim himself has dismissed reports suggesting that he has already stepped down. The clarification comes amid widespread speculation regarding his future as Mayor of Kolkata.

Rumours circulated on Wednesday that Hakim had resigned as Mayor and submitted his resignation letter to the Municipal Commissioner. The reports quickly spread across social media and municipal circles. At the time, Hakim was attending a meeting with mayoral council members at the KMC headquarters on S.N. Banerjee Road.

When questioned about the reports, Hakim said that the information being circulated was incorrect and that he had not taken any such decision. Asked again about the possibility of stepping down, he responded, “Not yet.” His remarks came as discussions regarding his position continued throughout the day.

Sources in the state municipal affairs department indicated that no confirmed information regarding his resignation had been received. Later, reports suggested that Hakim had met Mamata Banerjee and discussed the issue. However, neither the Commissioner’s statement nor Hakim’s comments indicated that any formal resignation had been submitted or accepted.
