Vidyasagar Setu to remain fully closed for 16 hours on June 7 for repair work
The Bihar government has withdrawn the Z-plus security cover provided to Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi following a review of security arrangements for VIP protectees in the state. According to an official notification issued on Thursday, the two former chief ministers will now receive security cover from the Bihar Special Armed Police.
The review also resulted in the withdrawal of the Y-category security cover provided to Tej Pratap, chief of the Janshakti Janta Dal and elder son of Lalu Yadav. Officials said the decision was taken as part of a broader assessment of security deployment for protected individuals across Bihar.
Under the revised arrangement, Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi will continue to receive security protection. Their current security setup includes two to eight house guards from the Bihar Special Armed Police, two bodyguards from the Patna District Force, and access to a pilot vehicle and a bulletproof car.
Officials explained that Z-plus security is among the highest categories of protection and involves a dedicated team of trained personnel equipped with advanced weapons. The review examined existing threat perceptions and security requirements before recommending changes to the security cover of several VIPs.
The state government has retained the Y-plus security cover provided to Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav. The notification also stated that the existing security arrangements for Member of Parliament Misa Bharti, the eldest daughter of Lalu Yadav, and Rajshree Yadav, wife of Tejashwi Yadav, will continue without any changes.
