Iran fires 7 ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain; Trump says Iran has ‘22%’ of missiles left

The United States said its forces struck Iranian radar installations on Greater Tunb and Qeshm Islands after intercepting four Iranian attack drones in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the radar sites were targeted to prevent further attacks in the strategic waterway. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) subsequently announced missile strikes against enemy positions near the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM stated that Iran launched seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain following the US operation. According to the US military, six missiles were intercepted before reaching their targets, while the seventh failed to complete its trajectory. The exchanges marked a further escalation in military activity around the Gulf region.

US President Donald Trump said American strikes had significantly reduced Iran’s missile capabilities and claimed that Iran now retains only 21–22 percent of its original missile arsenal. He also disclosed that a proposal to deploy troops to seize Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile had been considered but ultimately rejected because of the risks involved. Trump further stated that he would be open to meeting Iran’s Supreme Leader if a bilateral agreement is reached.

A separate assessment cited by US media indicated a different view of Iran’s military capacity. According to the report, US intelligence agencies believe Iran has reactivated 30 of its 33 missile sites and continues to possess approximately 70 percent of its missile stockpile. The differing assessments emerged as both countries continued to exchange claims regarding the effectiveness of recent military operations.

Other developments during the past 24 hours included Iran’s approval of pardons or sentence reductions for more than 2,000 prisoners, excluding those convicted of espionage or national security offenses. Israeli airstrikes continued in southern Lebanon, resulting in at least four deaths and multiple injuries. Iran’s crude oil exports reportedly declined by 84 percent in May amid intensified sanctions, while Ireland barred Israeli ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich from entering the country over statements the government said contributed to hostility and violence against Palestinians.
