“Who will form INDIA Bloc?” Agnimitra Paul calls TMC ‘tukde-tukde gang’
Geeti Hakim, sister of former Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, has alleged that she received threatening phone calls, including threats to her life, in the days following her brother’s resignation from the mayor’s post. According to her allegations, the calls were linked to an ongoing dispute involving a Durga Puja committee in the Fern Road area of Kolkata. She said the callers demanded money and issued warnings about her safety.
According to Geeti Hakim, she served as secretary of a local Durga Puja committee where a dispute arose over committee funds and government grant money. She alleged that a committee member withdrew funds through the government grant portal without her approval. Following the disagreement, she said she froze the committee’s bank account to prevent further transactions.
Geeti Hakim further alleged that supporters of local councillor Sudarshana Mukhopadhyay demanded ₹2 lakh from the committee’s funds. She claimed that after the bank account was frozen, anonymous callers began contacting her and demanding money. According to her account, the calls included threats and warnings intended to pressure her in connection with the financial dispute.
She alleged that one caller asked, “Will your brother be able to save you?” Geeti Hakim stated that she responded by saying she was not involved in politics and had no political dealings with her brother. She also alleged that callers threatened to surround her residence. Based on the nature of the dispute, she said she suspects individuals connected to the committee conflict may be responsible for the calls.
Councillor Sudarshana Mukhopadhyay denied the allegations. She stated that she had not met, spoken to, or communicated with Geeti Hakim through WhatsApp during the past five years and challenged her to provide evidence supporting the claims. Geeti Hakim and her lawyer are reportedly preparing to approach law enforcement authorities regarding the threatening calls. No official findings have been announced regarding the identity of the callers.
