Cops, home guards will get extra 10-days holiday for extended Puja duty: Govt
A group of dissident Trinamool Congress MPs reportedly held a closed-door meeting with Union Minister Bhupender Yadav at his official residence in New Delhi on June 8. According to the report, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was present at the meeting and played a leading role in the discussions. The meeting took place while senior opposition leaders, including Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, were in the national capital to participate in the INDIA alliance meeting. Sources cited in the report claimed that several vehicles carrying Trinamool MPs arrived at the venue before Suvendu Adhikari reached the residence.
The development came shortly after former Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy announced his resignation from both the Rajya Sabha and the Trinamool Congress. According to the report, Roy proceeded to the meeting venue after submitting his resignation to the Vice President. The report stated that his presence suggested an active role in efforts aimed at encouraging further departures from the party.
Those reportedly present at the meeting included Sharmila Thakur, Prasun Banerjee, Jagadish Basunia, Kalipada Soren, Arup Chakraborty, Asit Mal, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Shatabdi Roy, Rachna Banerjee and Partha Bhowmick. The report noted that the political steps taken by these leaders after the meeting would be closely watched amid continuing speculation about internal developments within the party.
According to the report, the number of MPs currently associated with the gathering does not exceed the two-thirds threshold generally required under anti-defection provisions for a formal legislative split. As a result, the reported participants cannot immediately form a separate parliamentary bloc based solely on the attendance mentioned. Sources quoted in the report also indicated that additional MPs could be linked to the discussions, adding to speculation regarding possible future political developments.
