Tension prevailed in Durgapur on Thursday morning after BJP workers and supporters staged a protest while Trinamool Congress leader Sukumar Dutta was being taken to court following his arrest. During the demonstration, protesters allegedly threw eggs at Dutta as police escorted him from New Township Police Station to the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Court. The incident led to a brief disruption in the area as security personnel managed the situation.
According to available information, a complaint had been filed against Dutta alleging corruption, creating terror and involvement in extortion-related activities. Acting on the allegations, police arrested him and kept him in custody before producing him before the court. On Thursday morning, police began transporting him from the police station to the court for further legal proceedings.
A large number of BJP workers and supporters gathered outside the police station and raised slogans against the arrested leader. Eyewitnesses stated that some protesters repeatedly threw eggs at Dutta during the protest, leading to heightened tension in the area. Police maintained security arrangements and escorted him to court as proceedings in the case continued.
